Coating Measurement

Though coating measurement may be simply be understood as "how thick is the paint?", it is often overlooked that there can be huge cost implications if the protective coating is too thick or too thin. For example over-thickness of the coating can add significant weight to an airplane, with subsequent fuel economy loss; however too thin a coating will then allow elements to make contact with the base material possibly causing corrosive damage.

Sonatest Coating Thickness Gauges use either the Magnetic Induction method (F) or the Eddy Current method (N) depeanding on the substrate of the coating to be measured.

Certain gauges are universal coating thickness gauges, which automatically indentify the substrate & activates the correct measuring procedure.
