Sonatest supply a range of technologies, flaw detectors and gauges, to assist in keeping Rail infrastructure in safe operating condition. Most notably the RailScan 125R, an Ultrasonic Flaw Detector especially developed to meet the requirements of Network Rail specification NR/SP/TRK/005.

The Railscan 125R is most commonly used with a Rail Inspection Trolley, but can also be used as a standard manual Flaw Detector for investigation of indications found using the trolley, or for inspection of specific areas such as boltholes.

The Sonacoat range of coating thickness gauges have been successfully used for the measurement of track contamination – The infamous ‘Leaves on the Line’ problem that has caused significant disruption to the British Rail Network in previous autumns.

The Sonatest Range of Ultrasonic Thickness Gauges can be used for assessment of Rail wear and corrosion, in particular the Steelgage II, with a 2 MHz probe, is used for spot check thickness readings.
